Shiv Prakash

Hello,

I’m Shiv Prakash, Assistant Professor in the Department of Earthquake Engineering at IIT Roorkee. I earned my B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Guwahati in 2018 and completed my Ph.D. under the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship at IIT Bombay in 2023, focusing on unbonded fiber-reinforced elastomeric isolators for seismic protection. After a postdoctoral fellowship at IIT Bombay, I spent a year at the University of Naples Federico II advancing low-cost elastomeric bearings and inerter-based damping devices for bridge and building resilience. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with colleagues at the University of Naples and Università Parthenope, as well as partners in Europe such as UCB, ETH Zurich, NTUA, LNEC, and several others on sustainable isolator technologies. My research centers on vibration control, passive and semi-active damping systems, multi-hazard optimization, and finite-element modeling to design smarter, cost-effective seismic solutions. I teach Structural Dynamics and Seismic Design, and love mentoring students to tackle real-world challenges.

Whether you’d like to discuss coursework, explore research possibilities, or challenge me to a friendly game of chess, I’m always just an email away.
